Roses are Red...
Part I

February 2012

Maybe she could do it.

They were home.

They'd made it.

He loved her. That's what he'd said last night.

This morning she had woken up with an empty bed, but a note and a rose.

Roses are red
Violets are Blue
I want you in my life
Forever it's true

Love,

Chakotay

Then there had been a time, and a location on the holodeck where she was to meet him later tonight.

Her dreams were becoming a reality.

She sighed, this was love. She had never felt anything like it before.

He had made love to her, in a sensual way that she would never forget. He was doing it for her, not for himself.

He was as considerate a lover as he was a first officer.

[Cargo Bay 2]

"Regeneration cycle complete."

Seven walked out of the alcove and reviewed all the information that had been processed last night.

A senior staff meeting at 0900 hours. Lunch special between 12-2 in the afternoon. Chakotay had booked the holodeck for that night. It was a program that she recalled was romantic and made for two.

Seven assumed given the progression in their relationship that he maybe wanted to take it to the next level as Tom Paris called it.

Seven shrugged and filed away the information for later that night.

[Ready Room - 10:30]

Kathryn sighed as she went over the dresses she'd picked for tonight. Green, definately green. Emerald green.

She chose the dress and sent the requisition to her quarters for a late night pick up. She laughed; good thing Chakotay had lent her some replicator rations for coffee, or she wouldn't have enough for the equisite dress.

She sighed; love was grand.

[1900 hours - Janeway Quarters]

She stared at herself in the mirror. The dress trailing to the floor. She knew that she wasn't as young as some on the crew, but for a woman her age, she still wasn't in bad shape.

She touched up the makeup around her eyes. Her lovely blue eyes, that set the dress on fire and had made most men she had dated's hearts race.

She smiled.

Yes love was grand.

[Chakotay's Quarters - 1930 hours]

Chakotay wiped the lint that was non-existant off his black tux. Tonight would be a night for memories, yet again. He grinned, showing his dimples.

Many of the women on Voyager loved the first officer's dimples, and ruggish good looks; but there was only one woman he would ever worry about pleasing again after tonight.

He walked over to his bedside table and pulled the solitary diamond ring out of his dresser.

Not too much, Kathryn wasn't the type; but enough for her hopefully to say yes, and love him forever.

[Cargo Bay 2 - 1945 hours]

Seven stepped out of the alcove. She had had the doctor pick out an outfit for her.

She changed into the red short dress and looked in the mirror, hoping this was indeed what a man would find attractive.

She ordered for a site to site tranport and ended up in the holodeck.

She looked around and stared at the extravagant bed, and champagne, complete with flute glasses.

Beside it was a dark purple velvet box.

Her curiosity got the better of her and she opened it.

Staring back at her was an elegant diamond solitaire ring.

He was going to propose.

She tried it on her ring finger and realized it was too small.

She sighed and began trying to slip it off her finger when the doors to the holodeck opened and in pranced her Captain.

[Holodeck 1 - 5 minutes previous]

Kathryn stared at the doors and prepared herself for whatever romantic night, Chakotay had planned. She drew in a deep breath and walked through the doors.

It was a magnificent honeymoon suite. The crystal chandaliers were breathtaking.  As she walked in, she saw a bottle of champagne and two flue glasses.

It took her breath away that he had gone to this much trouble.

She glanced around the room and saw a king sized bed. An opened dark maroon velvet case.

She looked up and gasped as she saw Seven in a slinky red dress laying unattractively on the bed.

She covered her face with her hands in surprise and ran out of the holodeck, her heart shattered at the image of her protegee fulfilling her dreams.

Kathryn ran back to her quarters, tears steaming down her cheeks.

When she got to her bedroom she tore the beautiful dress off and lay down, her dreams being achieved through the eyes of another.

Maybe fairy tales didn't come true.
